Welcome to Habitat Hillsborough's 2024 Veterans Build & Veterans Week of Service!
In 2018 we launched our Veterans Build Initiative and Veterans Build Week of Service to advocate for affordable homeownership opportunities and highlight the need for affordable housing solutions for low to moderate income military veteran families in Hillsborough County FL.
With over 90,000 military veterans in Hillsborough County:
23,400 or 26 percent of Veterans pay over 30% of income in housing.
9,900 or 11 percent of Veterans pay over 50% of income in housing.
10 percent of the homeless population are Veterans with Women Veterans twice as likely to be homeless.
Military Veterans are also twice as likely to suffer from disabilities compared to the civilian population.
Our Veterans Build Initiative provides YOU the opportunity to make a substantial impact in the lives of our most vulnerable Veterans in need of support.
How does Veterans Build & Veterans Week of Service Work?
SPONSOR THE VETERANS BUILD!
- Sponsorship opportunities with recognition benefits available.
- Reserved Corporate Team build days start at $3,000
- Individual build day opportunity: $50 (U. S. Veterans participate for Free) Not sure what this is. Is this new?
- Commit to volunteer one full day on a Habitat home site from 7:30am to 2:30pm
- Teams can select their build day upon payment...first come, first serve (November 4, 2024 – December 31st, 2024)
Veterans Week of Service
Nov. 4th - Nov. 11th
Volunteers will work on New Construction, Home Preservation and Veteran Community Service Projects throughout the week for Military Veterans and their families in our community.
Home Builds
Tentative Start date of November 11, 2024
Volunteer will work on the construction of a new home for a Military Veteran family. Projected start date is Monday, Nov. 11th until expected completion date of December 31st. Dates may be extended due to weather or construction delays.
***Every dollar raised will support the Home Build, Home Preservation and Veteran Service Projects. ***

Tampa’s Veteran Build Initiative for November 2023 
Ten military veterans have received the keys to their home 
and 50 have received assistance with Habitat Hillsborough’s #HomePreservation and Critical Repairs Program since it launched in 2018.
2nd Annual Rock the Block 
Neighborhood Revitalization Project
Thanks to sponsors like Fifth Third Bank & CDC of Tampa, Inc. we were able to revitalize four homes, including landscaping, painting, follow up work will include soffit/fascia upgrades.
Veteran Build Ground Breaking Ceremony
Senator Jay Collin’s and Representative Danny Alvarez assisted Habitat Hillsborough break ground on our Veteran Initiative, “Resilient Homes for Heroes” with The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs.
We are so thankful to our friends, Senator Jay Collin’s and Rep. Danny Alvarez for helping fund these homes for deserving veterans in our community!
Habitat Hillsborough is looking for low to moderate income Military Veterans with a dream of homeownership. 
Mr. Marshall | Army Veteran
Volunteers from the James A. Haley VA Hospital helped to restore the Marshall home. Mr. Marshall, an Army Veteran, struggled with reaching out in times of need. However, he wanted to make sure that his beautiful bride would be taken care of should something happen to him. Little did we know Mr. Marshall would go on to pass peacefully in his sleep and in his wife’s arms just a few days after Thanksgiving. The team of 17 volunteers stepped in to help work on the house, and even painted their benches Army gold.

Join our 6th annual Veterans Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament 2024. All proceeds support Habitat Hillsborough's Veterans Initiative, building and repairing homes for local veterans in need.
